About the Vineyard & Wildlife
Wildlife
The island’s expansive protected beaches, wet lands and unique habitats provide thriving environments of rare birds, wildlife and sea life. Piping Plovers are one of the endangered species often seen on our paddles followed by Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egrets, Osprey, Red Tail Hawks, Terns, many gulls and more.
Fish
The island is a world renowned fishing location, famous for Bluefish, Striped Bass, Albacore, Bonita and King Mackerel. Many of our trips, especially the Cape Pogue Adventure, offer an opportunity for trawling a fishing line behind your kayak and the chance to catch dinner.
Phosphorescence
Our sunset champagne and hors duerves paddle returns under the stars and brilliant night sky amongst one of our most beautiful phenomenon, Phosphorescence. This is a bioluminescent organism especially brilliant in the late summer and early fall, illuminating the path of your kayak with glowing sparkles in the water.
Shellfish
Our paddles will float us over the shellfish beds and rocky inlets home to the islands many delicacies such as Oysters, Quahogs, Scallops, Little Necks, and Lobster! You will have the opportunity to sample many of our island’s fare, especially our highly desired Quahog chowder, as part of your farewell Menemsha clambake dinner.
